~ Lakeside Farm Family Cows Available ~

Jersey and Jersey cross seasoned family cows and family cow prospects available as we switch our micro-herd over to A2/A2. Most of what we have available currently has been bred-back to our young A2/A2 bull by Select Sires Perry. We're here to help you start your path in famly cow ownership and home cheese making. These cows are sadly parted with simply in favor of having fewer animals and retaining only our top four favorites....

~ Dahlia ~
3/4 Jersey-1/4 Holstein - DOB: 1/31/2010
Has only had two calves/lactations as there was some trouble breeding back for a period where the fault was 100% our own - interruptions in the schedule/travel/children/relocating, and she was allowed to get too fat. Finally, last spring (around May 24) she had a healthy bull calf after live cover. If you are considering this gal please be sure to have access to a bull or a good AI tech.
She is currently fresh and presumed rebred to our Vernon bull last Autumn, buyer may pursue any milk or pregnancy testing at buyers expense.
She is shy but she comes to grain, and can be caught; leads, ties, and hand-milks pretty well. She was used as a nurse cow in 2020 and raised 8 babies. Dahlia is a huge, strong, gentle cow and could be used as a nurse cow or as a family cow for someone with large-animal experience (she would not be good for a total beginner!)
She has been cut back to once a day milking until confirmed bred and is running out with a yearling Perry bull (since ~6/3), and so far there is no reason to believe that she is open but DD is unknown (sorry!) Any veterinary work that reveals ongoing reproductive issues will be reimbursed 50%.

~ Dandy ~
3/4 Jersey-1/4 Holstein - DOB: 1/31/2010
DOB 1/19/2018.
Her first calves were born 2/28/2020 - unassisted twin bulls. She is recently (6/16/2021) was exposed to/covered by our A2/A2 Jersey Bull by Perry and dry to rebuild a bit of body condition after carrying and nursing twins as a heifer. She can be bred back by AI or I will put her out with our yearling Perry bull during her next heat.
She is not suitable for a beginner but is very friendly and outgoing. She is a bit head strong and overly opinionated but, with time she will make a nice family cow. She leads and ties but is kicky and touchy with hand-milking. Either more diligent training or a year or two more as a nurse cow will probably settle her down for use/resale as a beginner cow. Her mother was one of our primary family cows for eight years (her holstein-jersey mother and jersey sire are pictured above).
